Night Poem

by George Freek

I stare into the lake,
where the moon is reflected
like a shrunken pear.
The stars seem like tiny boats,
drifting in an inviting sea
to almost anywhere;
then giving way to despair.
My hopes seem to go,
where the stars go.
If this life is a dream,
I want to waken.
I once thought I knew
what I wanted,
but I was mistaken.
I leave my door open
to this mysterious night,
but only the wind
blows in and gives me no light.
