Hills breathe gusts.
Great green lungs
fill with dust
piled under ashen
sky holding back
tears. A blue sadness
reddens at dusk.
Day meets earth
and sky blushes
on horizon’s humped
shoulders. A fiery
heart plunges into
tomorrow, calmed by
a lingering blackness.
Richard Dinges, Jr. has an MA in literary studies from University of Iowa, and after many years, no longer manages business systems at an insurance company. Home Planet News, Icon, Toasted Cheese, The Cape Rock, and Miller’s Pond most recently accepted his poems for their publications.
